Eco Art installations, worskhops and commity art projects.
All my projects re-use waste materials collected in the home, business or organisation. Most projects will involve a period of collecting materials to use and may include using waste material used in the organisation.
Current Projects
Current Textile Project - With parents of children with special needs
Working with local group/s and parents I am creating a large textile piece that individuals will contribute to. This piece will focus on the theme “life as a parent of a child with special needs”.
Individuals will stitch a small piece, using repurposed materials, and the idea of slow stitching (which is simple, basic stitching, done without a particular plan at a gentle, rhythmic pace). These pieces will be brought together to create the final larger piece which I envisage as a journey, a stitched path across the patchwork background.
No major art or stitch experience is needed. Those who can just thread and do basic running stitch and those with years of embroidery experience are all welcome. The aim is for creative support and the chance to enjoy the process.
I am a trained arts psychotherapist and use slow stitch to both create art pieces and for my own relaxation. I find it soothing and the process, for me, is quite spontaneous an creative as I find a way to put discarded pieces together.
If you, as an individual or group are interested in participating in this textile project please do contact me. I have put together some fabric packs, with a few threads, that you can collect from me and start stitching. I also have a basic step by step guide of how you can create a piece using the fabric packs. You can work on your own at home on a piece or meet with a few friends or I can come a long to your group share and show you how. I will also be holding a few meet ups locally in the RG7 Mortimer/Burghfield area (contact me for upcoming dates).
Sculptural Textile Installation
This project is in the early stages and is ready to be upscaled into an Eco Art Installation. It is a perfect project for and organisation or business to use up waste materials and in so doing so create a piece of art.
This piece is sculptural in nature, made from waste materials – the little net bags we buy vegetables in. Through this yarn scraps, and other waste packaging, like string, are woven. This firms up the form, creating cacoon like structures or sculptural tubes. When hung together they are reminiscent of seed pods or insect cocoons.
As I continue to work on these small pieces I envisage a larger installation, consisting of numerous hanging net structures hung as a group, possibly from a tree or ceiling.
This is a project that would work well for an organisation, where employees or members contribute materials and possibly spend time weaving along with me, co-creating parts to add to the whole.
Alternatively, I could be commissioned to create this for an organisation using waste from an office, kitchen or with contributions of suitable waste materials from staff or members.
Commissioning Projects
If you are intertested in commissioning a project or workshop for a school, community group or business, do contact me to discuss or arrange a quote. Most projects will involve a period of collecting materials to use and may include using waste material used in the organisation.
